Two coaching centres fined
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) fined two coaching centres at Mirpur in the capital Tk 3.50 lakh on Monday for making the city dirty as it launched its drive against illegal banners, festoons and posters.
DNCC Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore Abdur Razzak led the drive as part of its initiative to make the city clean and beautiful. During the two-hour drive that started at 3pm in Mirpur-10 and Mirpur-11, several hundred illegal wall writings, posters, festoons and banners were removed. DNCC executive magistrate Masum Ali fined 'The Cadet Coaching' Tk 3 lakh and 'UGCC' Tk 50,000 for making the city dirty pasting posters, banners and festoons as well as for wall writings. Senior DNCC officials concerned were present during the drive.
Body of teenage girl recovered
The body of an unidentified teenage girl, aged around 18, was found from a sack at Pategna sea beach area in Chittagong yesterday morning.
The identity of the girl could not be known immediately. Patenga thana police recovered the body from the area after getting information of local, said Abul Kashem, Officer in Charge of Patenga thana. He said police suspected that the victim was strangled to death. No injury marks except her neck, he added. Kashem said police is trying to trace her identity.
Two held with VoIP equipment
A total of 671 SIM cards of different mobile phone operators and illegal VoIP equipment were seized at Halishahar's Golden Residential Area in Chittagong.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 in a joint drive on Friday seized the SIMs along with VoIP equipment and arrested two people in this connection, said a BTRC press release yesterday. Among the seized SIMs, Teletalk belongs to 491 SIMs while 108 SIMs owned by Grameenphone, 35 SIMs of Banglalink, 20 SIMs of Airtel and 17 SIMs of Robi. Besides, two SIM box devices, one for 64 SIM slots and another 32 SIM slots, three routers, two laptops and two media converters that worth Taka 4.50 lakh were also recovered in the drive.
Schoolteacher electrocuted in Ctg
A kindergarten schoolteacher died from electrocution at his workplace in Anowara Upazila Sadar area of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Abul Hasnat, 27. Police said Hasnat was electrocuted after he came in contact with live electricity while looking over water tank cleaning work of the workers on the tin-shed roof of the school around 8am.
