Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board will bring 146 Upazilas under 100 per cent electrification activities within the current 2016-17 fiscal year, said a press release issued by BREB.
The board is also working to bring all 460 Upazilas under 100 per cent electrification activities to keep up with a directive given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the statement added.
Under the board, 79 operating rural electric cooperatives called Palli Bidyuit Samity were working to bring the country’s rural areas under electrification network.
The statement said 314 Upazilas will be brought under power network in coming fiscal years.
In this regard, 14 projects are ongoing at a cost of about Tk 31,026 crore while seven other projects are under consideration.
BREB introduced e-GP tendering system for transparent transaction and till now 2,000 purchases have been completed under the system. It also took initiative to construct eight solar charging stations to facilitate easy-bikers to charge their vehicles. Out of the proposed stations, four have already been constructed.
The board also took initiatives to install about 2,000 solar irrigation pumps.
In the current fiscal year, the board is planning to construct 40 thousand kilometre power lines and 84 electricity sub-centres.
