Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque yesterday said action will be taken against the policemen involved in assaulting journalists during the shutdown against Rampal power plant.
He came up with the remarks while addressing a reunion of former students of Palong Tulasar Gurudas Govt High School in Shariatpur municipality here as the chief guest, reports UNB.
Staff reporter Ehsan Bin Didar and cameraperson Abdul Alim of ATN News were injured as a group of policemen, including assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ershad Mondal of Shahbagh Police Station, assaulted them while performing their professional duty at the gate of Shahbagh Police Station during the shutdown on Thursday.
The National Committee enforced the half-day hartal in the capital demanding cancellation of the Rampal power plant near the Sundarbans.
Talking about the involvement of students in militant activities, the IGP urged guardians to be aware about the activities of their children. “If you see any change in your children, inform it to police and the teachers concerned,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Mahmudul Hossain Khan and Police Super of Shariatpur Saifullah Al Mamun were present at the event.
