Natl committee refutes PM criticism
National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Port yesterday issued a statement protesting Prime Ministers Sheikh Hasinas remarks criticising Rampal protesters on Saturday. Opposing the PMs words, the national committee in its statement said they have visited the Sundarbans and Rampal power plants a number of times. The experts team from Bangladesh and a team from UNESCO visited the Sundarbans and both the teams havent changed their stance on the Sundarbans.
The statement issued by Prof Anu Muhammad, member secretary of the national committee, said that the Prime Minister has advised them to take a long-march towards Sundarban from Rampal. We will do that. We urge the prime minister to grant us a safe passage to go there so that the police force or ruling party backed cadre wont attack during our long march, the statement said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday criticized those who are opposing the power plant saying that they never visited the power plant site to get idea regarding the impact on the Sundarbans.
She also said that the protesters are conducting campaign sitting in the capital...they never visited Rampal in their life.
