Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has instructed the officials concerned of the High Court to quickly prepare the paper book of death reference in the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case. The chief justice will assign a High Court bench to hear the death reference after the paper book is prepared, Additional Registrar of the HC Sabbir Faiz told reporters yesterday. “After giving his approval on special consideration over the death reference, the Chief Justice has instructed officials
to prepare the paper book of the case on a priority basis,” he said. The paper book can be prepared by around two months as the Chief Justice has asked to prepare it quickly, he said. The paper book, which is necessary for the HC to hear and dispose of a death reference or an appeal, contains all the details of the case, trial proceedings, statements, evidence, verdicts and other related documents.
On January 16, Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge's Court found 35 people, including 25 former RAB officials and expelled ruling AL leader Nur Hossain, guilty of abduction and murder of seven people and destroying evidence in Narayanganj in April 2014. The court handed down death penalty to 26 people, including 16 former RAB men and jailed nine other for various terms. On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area. At the same time, senior lawyer at the District Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarkar and his driver were also abducted on their way to the capital. Later, the bodies were recovered from the Shitalakhya River.
