Three members of the Myanmar’s Advisory Commission on Rakhine State, known as Kofi Annan’s commission, visited Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar yesterday. The Annan Commission members, Win Mra, Aye Lwin and Ghassan Salamé, were accompanied by Baki Billah, a joint secretary of the Foreign Ministry. The team first went to the Ukhia refugee camp and talked with a number of Rohingya refugees.
Nur Quader was one of the Rohingya refugees with whom the commission members had elaborate discussion. Quader said that he was asked to give a detailed description of the perils he had faced. Later, they also visited the Leda Rohingya refugee camp in the district.
Saikat Biswas, officer of the Teknaf office of International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that the member of the Annan commission will also hold discussion with the local government officials and the representatives from different international organizations. The commission member will return to Dhaka on Tuesday and hold a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmud Ali.
