Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes refuses to give up the hopes of playing the historic Test match against India in Hyderabad in the next month as he vows to leave no stone unturned in a bid to keep him fit.
Since Bangladesh will fly for India on February 2, the only thing which will bother Kayes is the time. But the batsman said he tries his best to give him the shot of recovering from the injury fully.
Kayes will appear in the fitness test with other injured players on Tuesday, based on which it would be confirmed whether he would get a place in India bound team.
The opener continues his rehabilitation right after he was ruled out from the second Test following a muscle strain in the first Test. Kayes had to keep wicket for almost 150 overs in absence of injured Mushfiqur Rahim. When he opened the innings for Bangladesh, the huge load on keeping wicket took a toll on his body as he fell in injury.
He had to be taken off the field in the 13th over during the second innings of the first Test after scoring 24 against New Zealand at Wellington. He was hardly able to walk, and a stretcher had to be pulled out of the ambulance parked beyond the boundary. The left-hander was injured while taking a sharp single with a full stretch dive. He was taken to a hospital where the X-Ray report confirmed that there was a little fracture.
“There is little pain unlike the past. I have conducted cycling, running but felt no pain. I have also talked to doctor. Since the match starts on February 9, hope I’ll get fit ahead of the match,” Kayes said yesterday, adding his India tour will depend on the verdict of the physio report.
“Every player gets desperate to play such a high profile match. Because it’s a place where we don’t play much cricket. So it’s a golden opportunity. We are excited with the series.”
Bangladesh will play a two-day practice match against India A team, leading up to the Test match. Even though he makes room in the squad for the Test, it is unlikely Kayes will play the practice match. But he is keen to keep him prepared for anything.
“The matter of playing the practice match will be relied on physio. If he gives me certificate, I will play the match. Five more days are left. Hopefully a full-fledged training will help me to get fit.”
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr. Devashis Chowdhury however warned that Kayes could be out from the Sri Lanka tour if he plays India Test even with slightest injury.
As professional player, Kayes also wants to keep him fit fully before he decides to play the Test against India.
