Liton double-ton helps EZ take lead

Liton Kumar Das smashed 219 as Islami Bank East Zone took 78-run lead against Walton Central Zone on the close of the second day in the first round game of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogra yesterday.

Elsewhere at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS), BCB North Zone rode on Naeem Islam’s unbeaten 176 to pile up 474 for seven.
 Central Zone vs East Zone
Resuming the second day at 95 for no loss, Islami Bank East Zone added 272 runs largely thanks to Liton Kumar Das’ outstanding 219. Liton Das piloted the innings for East Zone by hitting a string of successful partnerships. The opener pulled together 111-run with Mehedi Maruf for the opening stand, another 126-run with Tasamul Haque for the third wicket, while 73-run with Abul Hasan Raju for the seventh wicket stand, which crossed the 350-run mark.
Before being caught by substitute Abdul Majid off Taibur Rahman Parvez, this wicketkeeper-batsman clouted 219 off 241 that studded with 26 fours and four sixes in his 350-minute stay at wickets.
Mehedi Maruf (41), Tasamul Haque (38) and Abul Hasan Raju (40) were the other renowned contributors of East Zone.
Shuvagata Hom was the most successful bowler, who scalped five-wicket haul including three batsmen fell for naught. He conceded 101 runs to take five-for in 23.3 overs. He was aided by Taibur Rahman Parvez, who grabbed three wickets for 50.
In reply, Walton Central Zone put on 65 for one after their first innings total of 224. Shamsur Rahman Shuvo remained at stumps on 29, while Raqibul Hasan was not out 29. Ebadot Hossain Chowdhur snapped up the fallen one wicket for 25.
North vs South
BCB North Zone amassed a huge 474 for seven wickets after resuming the second day at 210-3. All-rounder Naeem Islam attempted to stretch the innings by hitting some invaluable partnerships. He stitched together 73-run fourth wicket with Nasir Hossain, 77-run fifth wicket with Dhiman Ghosh and 118-run seventh wicket with Suhrawardi Shuvo en route to his indefatigable 176-run innings.
Naeem shrewdly converted his overnight fifty to century. And now he is 24 runs away from his double century. This spin all-rounder played 457 balls, where he clattered 12 fours and two sixes to be remained unbeaten. Although Nasir H Hossain, who fell for 39 and Ariful Haque, who chipped in with 43, missed their respective fifty, Suhrawardi Shuvo cracked fifty after Jahurul Islam (65). Shuvo made 57 off 132 with four fours before being dismissed.
Experienced spinner Abdur Razzak took three, while Sohag Gazi bagged two wickets for Prime Bank South Zone.
