RMG worker killed by ‘husband’
A garment worker was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband at section-7 of Mirpur in the capital early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Taslima, 32, wife of Nur-E-Alam. She used to live in a rented house at section-7 in Mirpur. Officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station Dadan Fakir said neighbours informed police as they didn’t get any response from Taslima despite repeated calls in the morning.
Accident kills woman in Savar
A woman was killed and 20 others injured as a passenger bus collided head on with another bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) in Ashulia area in Savar yesterday.
The deceased was not identified immediately. Witnesses said the accident took place at the morning when a bus of Palash Paribahan collided head on with another bus of BRTC in Mojarmil area on Nabinagar-Chandra Highway. The woman died on the spot. The injured people were admitted to nearby clinics.
Garment factory catches fire
A fire broke out at a readymade garment factory in Sagorika area of Chittagong city on Sunday morning.
The fire broke out in Bintax factory at about 9:40 am, said Mohammad Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Chittagong fire service. On information, two firefighting units from Agrabad and port fire stations rushed to the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control around 10:30am. It could not be ascertained yet what caused the fire, Jasim said.
‘Digital system can prevent child marriage’
Application of the digital short message service (SMS) using information and communication technologies could be an effective tool for preventing child marriage, speakers said in Rangpur yesterday.
The observation came at a daylong training course on “SMS Based Certificate before Marriage Registration to Stop Child Marriage Project” held in the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) here. The district administration organised the event with assistance of Plan International Bangladesh (PIB) for the four-member eight special teams, one each from eight upazilas, under Rangpur and Nilphamari districts.
