Solo painting show ‘An Eternal Journey’ underway at AFD

A solo painting exhibition, titled ‘An Eternal Journey’ by artist Nazmul Haque Bappy, has begun at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in the capital’s Dhanmondi area. The Inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held on Friday. Actor, director and writer Mamunur Rashid, actor and singer Tahsan Khan and Professor Nasreen Begum, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka were present the opening ceremony as the special guests. Bruno Plasse, Director of Alliance Française de Dhaka welcomed the guests and also presided over the session. Around 30 paintings are on display at La Galerie. Though Oriental art was invented in China and Japan, but with the great contributions from Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Abdur Rahman Chughtai and other prominent artists, Oriental art was introduced in the Indian subcontinent. Oriental style was mainly based on watercolour washing method. It has inherent or partial similarity between Oriental culture and medium that is both powerful and emphatic.
Nazmul Haque Bappy’s paintings exhibit mountains, nature, animal and blend Oriental culture with realism to create a new form. He also tries to blend European style with his own style to make something very refreshing. Nature and its emotional ability to swerve, birds, rivers, sea, growing shadows of trees, leaves, sound etc. are the main aspects of Bappy’s paintings which have been done with Chinese patterns employing special types of ink and colour. A total of 30 paintings will be exhibited in this exhibition.
Artist Md Nazmul Haque Bappy accomplished his MFA degree with 1st class from Department of  Oriental  Art, University of Dhaka and presently doing PhD on ‘Chinise Traditional Painting’ in University in Beijing, China. To be noted, he has so fur achieved several important awards, including the departmental best award 2011, best medium award 2008 and berger young painter award 2009.
The exhibition is open to all till February 4 at La Galerie, AFD and can be visited according to the following schedule: Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday (9am to12 noon and 5pm to 8pm). Closed -Sunday.
