SYDNEY: Six balls, six wickets — it’s every bowler’s dream. Aussie club cricketer Aled Carey will be telling his family and mates (and anyone else who will listen) this story for the rest of his life after achieving the almost unheard-of feat in a Ballarat Cricket Association fourth-team fixture in Australia, according to NZ Herald.
Playing for Golden Point against East Ballarat, Carey (29) had bowled eight unsuccessful overs. But fellow opener Mark Van De Heuvel had just claimed a wicket the delivery before Carey took the ball for his ninth over.
The first delivery saw the batsman edge to first slip, the next provided a catch to the wicketkeeper and the third was adjudged LBW.
Hat-trick celebrations had barely died down when the fourth opponent was clean bowled. The next two batsmen suffered the same fate.
That was seven wickets in seven balls for the Golden Point side, who went on to dismiss its opponent for 40 runs.
“A couple of times I’ve been pretty close to a hat-trick, probably three or four times in my life, but I’ve never been lucky enough to get that third one,” Carey told The Courier Sport. “I’m still in shock at the moment.
“It’s something you don’t see very often and I think this was my lucky day. I don’t think I’ll ever do it again.
