Five-for Rahi propels Islami Bank East Zone

Sports Reporter

Fast bowler Abu Jayed Rahi’s five-for propelled Islami Bank East Zone to bundle Walton Central Zone out for a paltry 224 on the opening day of the four-day affair in the first round game of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra yesterday.

Elsewhere at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, BCB North Zone accumulated 210-3 against Prime Bank South Zone at stumps.
Central Zone vs East Zone
East Zone skipper Alok Kapali won the toss and decided to first use his bowling battery, the decision which he took on the pace-friendly surface proved ‘justified’ when East’s pacers took the bulk of the wickets and halted the progress of Central Zone.
Although new pace sensation Ebadot Hossain struck the first breakthrough for East Zone, Abu Jayed Rahi’s double strike following Raqibul Hasan’s dismissal made Central Zone stuttering at 86-5.
Therefore, skipper Mosharraf Hossain Rubel appeared in the crease and tried to steady the ship with his fellow tail-ender batsmen by stitching together a sting of partnerships including a successful 70-run with Mohammad Sharif for the ninth wicket stand, which superseded the 200-run mark.
Finally they managed to score 224 before being all-out in 65.2 overs. Mohammad Sharif fell six runs shy of his half-century. He clubbed three sixes and four fours in his 55-ball 44. Mosharraf Hossain made 46 off 96 with six fours to be remained unbeaten.
Abu Jayed Rahi scalped five for 37. Ebadot Hossain and Saqlain Sajib picked up two wickets each for East Zone.
In reply, Islami Bank East Zone mustered 95 with no loss at stumps. Wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Kumar remained indefeated at 60, while Mehedi Maruf was not out 32.
North Zone vs South Zone
BCB North Zone opted to bat first after winning the toss and lost opener Zunaed Siddique cheaply. Together with Farhad Hossain, skipper Jahurul Islam Omee then hit 72-run for the second wicket. Farhad chipped in with 43. Then Omee partnered with Naeem Islam and clobbered 76-run for the third wicket. Omee of course completed his half century before being caught by Mosaddek Hossain off Abd
