1kg heroin seized in Rajshahi
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1kilogram of heroin worth Tk 20lakh in 'C and B' intersection area of Godagari upazila in Rajshahi on Friday afternoon.
According to a BGB press release, a patrol team of BGB led by Subedar Rezaul Karim, commander of Godagari border outpost, conducted a drive in the area around 4.30pm and seized heroin. Sensing the presence of the BGB personnel, the drug peddlers fled. However, none was arrested in this connection.

Five passport forgery gang members held 
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested five members of a passport forgery syndicate from different areas of the capital on Thursday.
The arrestees are Md Selim Miah, 50, Md Majid Bhutto, 50, Manik Das, 73, Md Humayun Kabir, 40, and Md Nazrul Islam Lablu, 62. Based on secret information, a special team of Rab-1 carried out a drive in Shanirakhra area around 10:15pm and arrested Selim along with fake visa and passport making materials. According to his statement, the elite force raided Fakirerpool and Shakhari Bazar areas and arrested the four gang members while another suspected syndicate member, Arif Hossain, managed to flee.

35 injured in house collapse at Ijtema venue
Around 35 devotees were injured as the roof of a tin-shed house collapsed on them at the Biswa Ijtema ground at Tongi on Friday afternoon.
Local MP Zahid Ahsan Russel who visited the spot said the roof of the shabby house fell on the devotees around 2:15pm while they were staying in it after offering Juma prayers. He also said the accident occurred as the house had not been repaired for long. The injured were admitted to Tongi Government Hospital and local clinics.

Get-together held in Ctg
A get-together of the five generations of late Amanat Khan, former member of Bengal Legislative Council, was held at a community centre in Chittagong city on Friday.
Amanat Khan's sons Ibrahim Khan, former chief engineer of Chittagong municipality, and Ashraf Khan, his grandson (daughter's son) Amanullah Khan, also chairman of United News of Bangladesh (UNB), Prof Dr Mainul Islam, Faaz Ahmed Khan, SM Fazlul Haque, Soyeb Khan and Niaz Mohammad Khan, among others, attended the event. It was announced at the programme that a trustee board will be established in the name of Amanat Khan to develop education and society.

WINGS Foundation Day celebrated
WINGS Foundation Day, marking the 2nd founding anniversary of Women in Need Group (WINGS), was celebrated at Gulshan Club in the capital on Friday.
A magazine, WINGS Magazine, was also launched on the occasion while a presentation was made on the Evolution of Dance with spontaneous participation of guests. Nijera Kori Coordinator Khushi Kabir and former Information Commissioner and Sociology Professor of Dhaka University Dr Sadeka Halim, among others, attended the programme. Entrepreneur Tootli Rahman along with fellow entrepreneurs launched WINGS in 2015 for women development and empowerment.

Death of Prof Shahabuddin condoled
Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique yesterday expressed profound shock at the death of former Professor of the university Shahabuddin Khan.
In a message of condolence, the VC said Professor Shahabuddin discharged his duty with sincerity as a family member of the university, said a DU release.
