Stress on effective law to make roads safe

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday stressed the need for taking measures to enact an effective law with collective efforts to make the country's roads safe, reports UNB.
She made the call while addressing the 7th conference of Nirapod Sarak Chai, a platform that demands for safe road, in the city at Mahanagar Natyamancha auditorium.
Dr Shirin, also chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association's (CPA) Executive Committee, praised Nirapad Sarak Chai saying that the movement for safe road, which started with personal initiative, is an effort to work for wellbeing of the people nationally, socially and culturally. Noting that safe road is a universal demand irrespective of party and opinion, she said it is necessary to engage the country's people from all strata alongside the members of parliament in the movement to ensure safe road.
The Speaker said it is essential to incorporate the issue of safe road and zebra crossing in the textbooks for the greater interest of the country and the nation. Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq, founder of the platform film actor Ilias Kanchan and Barrister Saidul Haque also spoke.
