Awami League MP Shamim Osman yesterday said a conspiracy is on to defame some 100 MPs who will not compromise over the
question of Sheikh Hasina, reports UNB."I heard that a conspiracy is on to defame some 100 MPs in various ways. Those who will not compromise over the question of Sheikh Hasina will be targeted.
Such a situation will be created so that it'll be difficult for them to do politics in the future," he told parliament joining the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the president's speech.
The ruling party MP said blamed those who want another 1/11 political changeover and some civil society members for the conspiracy.
He also criticised some newspapers blaming those for running reports tarnishing the image of Sheikh Hasina, ministers and MPs.
Naming a vernacular daily, Shamim Osman said it ran an item claiming that he was involved in the Narayanganj seven-murder incident. “I had sent a legal notice to it to disclose the sources of the news, but it didn’t. Now what will they say following the court verdict?" he said demanding a ruling of Speaker for tarnishing their image by the media and enacting a law for stopping defamation of MPs by the media.
The AL MP urged the speaker to either provide them protection or release them as ordinary people, saying: “Then we'll show the general people’s power. It won’t take much time for me to gather thousands of people in front of their offices (newspapers)." He also criticised Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, editor of the Daily Observer and prime minister’s media adviser.
