Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) is working round the clock to finish all preparation for a smooth staging of the First Islamic Solidarity Archery Championship. The four day championship will be held at Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium in the capital.
About 70 archers drawn from 17 countries will take part in nine events. Bhutan and Sudan have already arrived in the capital and rest of the participants are expected to reach Dhaka today. The Word and Asian Archery Federation vice-president Sanguan Kosabinta will come here on January 28 to observe the competition. Bangladesh will also host the Asian Archery in Dhaka this year.
The BAF has already selected 16 local archers- eight male and eight female- to battle for nine medals. “All the Bangladesh team members are looking forward to show a positive result on their home ground. I think my players are determined to clinch the top position at least winning six titles,” said Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, general secretary of BAF. He said except Pakistan all other 15 countries have confirmed their participation and arrival schedule.
While talking to this reporter yesterday Rajib Uddin said they may have to curtail the budget as they yet to get the promised money from different co-sponsors. Islami Bank Limited, Bangladesh is title sponsor of the meet.
