Middle order batsman Mominul Haque insisted the bad patch of the team would help them to gel together more unlike the past when the team was left in chaotic situation after one bad series.
Bangladesh had recently ended a dismal New Zealand tour, finishing the series losing all eight matches in three format of cricket. A tour in which they were supposed to show that their cricket has come off age, it brought up huge agony and created a furor amongst the mass people.
A drastic change in the team was called though the Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha warned any sweeping change might leave a bad impact. In the wake of the awkward situation, the players remained more united, according to Mominul Haque who had to be left out halfway through the New Zealand tour because of rib injury.
“I have been in the national team for four years. I saw when the team plays good, everything remains okay but when the team plays bad, criticism is poured on. In the past the team used to breakdown in the wake of criticism but I noticed in the last two or three years, the team becomes more united in the wake of criticism. Hopefully the recent criticism would make us stronger than ever,” Mominul said yesterday.
“The result in New Zealand tour was not in our favour but I insist that we played good cricket. We pushed them hard but a bad day or a bad session cost us the game. There are many positive things in the tour. Personally I have learnt much from that tour and it would be helpful for me in the future.”
The diminutive player, considered as Test batsman thanked BCB and coaching staffs to arrange training in Australian condition before the series.
“I have to thank the board and coaching staffs. Before starting the New Zealand tour, we have practiced in Australia which came as good for me and all the players.”
However forgetting the New Zealand tour, Mominul now wants to focus on Test against India which is going to be Bangladesh’s first Test in the Indian soil.
“I am in good shape now and feel better. I have to appear in a fitness test in the next month. Hopeful I’ll overcome it to make me available.”
Since his arrival into the national Test team in 2013, Mominul possessed a Bardman-esque average which only diminished in the recent time. Still he holds a Test average of 52 after playing 20 Tests. He has four centuries and 11 half-centuries after playing 36 innings.
But despite the healthy stat, he had no century in overseas condition which is only a spot of bother in his career so far. His highest score in abroad remains 64 so far.
He however hoped to break the shackle as Bangladesh would play more Test matches in abroad than home in this year.
“There is Test in India and a Test series in Sri Lanka. Hopefully I will be able to break the jinx.”
Mominul reiterated that he had no thinking about ODI as of now as he is out of plan of ODI set up.
“I am not thinking about ODI cricket. If management wants, then only I can think.”
