The foreign ministry yesterday summoned Pakistan’s high commissioner in Dhaka with regards to safety and security of Bangladeshi diplomats and staffs of the high commission in Islamabad and deputy high commission in Karachi. The move comes after a cracker blasted on the wall of Bangladesh deputy high commission compound in Karachi around 5:30pm on Tuesday, according to a diplomat.
The deputy high commission reported it to Dhaka apart from local authorities, said the diplomat, adding that they do not know who threw the cracker from nearby street.
The envoy was reminded of Pakistan’s obligation as the host country to protect diplomatic premises from any unwanted or offensive activities and asked to strengthen the presence of security personnel at both the missions.
“The High Commissioner of Pakistan in Dhaka, Rafiuzzaman Siddiqui, was summoned today to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and asked to meet the Director General of South Asia Wing,” said a foreign ministry press release.
“During the meeting in the afternoon, the high commissioner was told to bring the issue of safety and security of the high commissioner of Bangladesh in Islamabad, the deputy high commissioner in Karachi and their staffs to the attention of the competent authority of Pakistan,” it said.
“He was reminded that it is the responsibility of the host government to ensure that the premises of the diplomatic missions remain protected at all times from any unwanted or offensive activities,” said the release.
“The high commissioner was also asked to convey to the concerned authority to further strengthen the presence of security personnel in all Bangladesh missions in Pakistan,” it added.
