Kamal emphasises governance to ensure higher growth

Good governance is the major pre-condition for development for any country, but it is absent 

in Bangladesh, says planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal. 
“We should give attention to address the governance issue to ensure higher economic growth,” he said while addressing at a discussion on “Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” held at the NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city yesterday.
General Economic Division (GED) and United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) jointly organized the programme.
Presided over by GED member Prof. Shamsul Alam, among others chief coordinator of SDGs Abul Kalam Azad, president of Jatiya Press Club Md. Shafiqur Rahman, editor of Financial Express         
Mustafa Kamal said Bangladesh will emerge as poverty-free country by 2030, Mustafa Kamal. 
He said, “With poverty declining by two percent every year in Bangladesh, it would further be reduced to half by 2015 and by 2030 the country will emerge out as a poverty free country.” 
Planning minister admitted that the economy is still in vulnerable due to militant activities. 
About the report of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic (BBS) the minister said every can trust the BBS report.
However he said it does not provide up to date data always and all statistics can not provides accurate information. 
Abul Kalam Azad urged the media to focus success story to build up image about the achievement of SDGs. 
If we do work collectively SDGs would achieve like Millennium Development Goals before stipulated time, he added.
In his presentation Prof. Shamsul Alam sought effective role and coherent role of media on creating SDGs awareness and branding of success.
He further said media can also provide suggestions to GED which wil be helpful for preparing the action plan.
