Train kills physician in capital 
A physician was crushed to death by a train at Amtali level crossing of Mohakhali in the capital on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Dr Md Iftekhar Quashem, 53, a resident of house-260 of Road-4 at Mohammodia Housing in Adabar of the city. Assistant sub-inspector Imdadul Hoque of Kamalapur Railway Police Station said Dr Iftekhar was hit by the speedy train around 11:30 am while walking along the rail tracks, leaving him dead on the spot. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

7 factories fined Tk 12 lakh 
A total of seven factories including six brick kilns in Rajshahi were fined Tk 12 lakh for allegedly violating the existing rules and regulations on Tuesday.
The factories were fined as members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institutions (BSTI) conducted mobile courts in different areas of the district. Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam led the court, said a BSTI press release. The factories that were found guilty are: Bishal Food Industries, MRB Bricks, MRK Bricks 1 & 2, MSA Bricks, MNI Bricks and Bangla Bhata. The court lodged separate cases against the factory owners on charge of manufacturing and marketing goods without BSTI license. The court also realised Tk 12 lakh from the owners as fine and disposed of the cases on the spot, the release added.

Fire guts factories in Chittagong
A mineral water factory and a mosquito coil factory were gutted in a devastating fire in Abdul Latif hat area under Boalkhali upazila of the district in the early hours of Tuesday.
Fire Service sources said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit at a factory and soon engulfed the adjoining area. Four fire fighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. Valuables worth about Taka 20 lakh were gutted in the fire, fire service sources said. Besides, an electric goods shop was gutted in a fire at 6th floor of Alankar shopping complex of city's Pahartali thana around 6.40 am. The fire originated from an electric short circuit, fire service sources said. Valuables worth about Taka eight lakh were gutted in the fire, sources added. On information, two units of fire fighters from Agrabad fire station rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 8.50 am.
