A Dhaka court yesterday issued arrest warrants against 17 BNP leaders and activists including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s personal assistant Shimul Biswas, in an arson case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge M Kamrul Hossain Mollah issued the arrest warrant after taking cognisance of the charge sheet in a case filed with Khilgaon police station under the Special Powers Act.
The court also ordered the officer-in-charge of Khilgaon police station to submit a progress report on February 26. BNP leaders Selima Rahman, Barkatullah Bulu, Maruf Kamal Khan, Shirin Sultana, Shafiul Bari Babu, Mir Sharafat Ali Sopu, and MA Qaium were among the accused. A group of miscreants set a bus of Turag Transport afire during a blockade programme enforced by BNP on January 31 in 2015. M Nazrul Islam, owner of Turag Transport filed a case with Khilgaon police station against 21 BNP leaders and activists, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, MK Anwar and Amanullah Aman.
