RAJSHAHI: All the government and non-government organisations concerned should put in the level best efforts for devising ways and means on how to prevent the child marriage, said speakers at a discussion here Tuesday, reports BSS.
They viewed substantial and sustainable reduction of child marriage has become an urgent need for ending violence against women and children. To this end, responsive support from the community, especially religious leaders, marriage-registrars, parents and influential leaders is very important.
The observations came in an advocacy and roundtable meeting on child marriage at conference hall of Ashroy under Paba Upazila in the district. World Vision Bangladesh, a non-government organization, hosted the meeting in association with UCEP Bangladesh and CMES putting forward a set of recommendations on how to free the society from child marriage.
Main thrust of the meeting was to involve more government officials and community people so that they can play pivotal role in changing the social mindset on child marriage.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Selim Hossain addressed the meeting as chief guest with Paba ADP Manager of World vision Bangladesh Diamond Jesper Ghagra in the chair. Fisheries Officer Abul Kalam Azad, Youth Development Officer Syed Ali Reja, Rural Development Officer Moshiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Paba Police Station Parimal Chakravarty and world vision Program officer Lorence Mondol also spoke. The speakers viewed prevention of child marriage could be the vital means of substantial and sustainable reduction of child pregnancy besides combating violations and repression against women and children.
