Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is desperate to get the service of Jonty Rhodes in a bid to increase the fitness level of the players and stop the errant fielding which cost them in the just concluded New Zealand tour.

The former South African player is considered as the greatest fielder the world has even seen.  Bangladesh fielders put down at least 18 catches in the whole New Zealand tour, which was one of the main reasons behind their 8-0 loss in the series. The fielding woe however had started during the series against Afghanistan and they continued it against England too. That shoddy fielding prompted Bangladesh to be desperate to get the service of Rhodes.  The BCB earlier tried to bring up Rhodes in 2009 but failed to convince him.
“Our catching was gruesome in the New Zealand tour. We have dropped so many catches and even we have put down some easy chances,” said BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon. “I have talked to all concerned people to solve the problem and we decided in principle to bring up Jonty Rhodes. We have approached him already.”
“We have seen the players got injured while diving. Now if you get injury while running between the wickets or diving, it means, you are not physically fit. Rhodes will work on increasing the fitness level and teach the players how to dive.”
The president however didn’t confirm whether Rhodes give any reply. Richard Halsall is the fielding coach of Bangladesh at the moment.
