Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), rues on team’s senior players not to play their stakes properly, stating that they will work on them after returning home from New Zealand.

“The games we have been played in where we had possibilities of winning in two formats. In ODI and T20, we had possibilities of triumphing chance but could not capitalise it due to batting woes,” said Nazmul Hassan, who was flanked by BCB vice president Mahbub Anam, its directors Jalal Younus, IH Mallick, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan on the occasion.
“In ODI, we’d made a good start, where we had more 100-run partnerships in two matches but could not capitalise it due to middle-order collapse. But it has been reversed in T20, where top-order has been super flopped. No more big runs from them. If we could get support from them, then our score in T20 would be better further. Even in Test, they played in same vein,” Papon told at his Beximco Pharma office in the capital yesterday.
“Actually batting is the major cause behind our shocking result of the tour in New Zealand. I’ll use what term ‘irresponsible’ or ‘reckless’ to describe their batting I don’t know. But nobody can expect such batting from our senior players,” he added.
Citing the names of Nurul Hasan, Taskin Ahmed and Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the BCB president said that young players’ performance was lauded not only by Bangladesh but also by New Zealand.
“Our bowling performance in New Zealand condition after a long lull of time has been better especially our debutant bowlers. New Zealand also praise their bowling performance,” Nazmul said.
“Sohan, Rabbi, Shanto-they all played really well. The way they played with courage and composure that’s praiseworthy. Shanto’s playing technique is good though he can’t make more runs. Taskin bowled well,” Hassan also said.
When asked about there had any lacking in overall game planning, Papon defies it and that such result in tour has been happened due to player’s individual problem.
“There is no scope for the deficit in our planning. Everybody will tell what is needed to do in planning in such situation. It depends on player’s mentality in what situation they are doing. At that time, there is no need for playing such shots. There can’t be other plan or planning,” BCB boss said.
“You can see what shots they had played. I think there is no problem in planning. That’s the player’s individual problem,” he also said.
The president said that players’ physical and mental issues were involved behind their shoddy performance in the tour of New Zealand.
“There are problems in players’ physic. You have to dive during the fielding or taking runs. But if you sustained injuries to do so then we have to tell you have physically problems. Now we have so many injuries in the team. There are also mental issues. Actually it is both mental and physical issue,” he wrapped up.
