Hawkers meet minister seeking rehabilitation

Bangladesh Hawkers' Union leaders yesterday submitted a 10-point charter of demands to civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon, seeking rehabilitation for hawkers and end to police harassment.  “We've sought cooperation from the minister, who is also chief of the Workers' Party (WP). We've asked for his help to prepare a list of genuine hawkers and their rehabilitation through the enactment of a law,” Abdul Hashem Kabir, convenor of the Bangladesh Hawkers' Union (BHU), told The Independent after the meeting at the WP office at Topkhana Road.
