Preparatory meet ahead of 'Ekushey February' held
To observe the 'Amar Ekushey February and International Mother Language Day' smoothly and peacefully, a preparatory meeting was held on Monday at Dhaka University (DU) with its Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair. 
The meeting, took place at the Nawab Nobab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (administration) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin, deans of different faculties, provosts of the halls, chairmen of various departments, directors of different institutes, representatives of teachers, leaders of officials, additional secretary of cultural ministry Md Masiur Rahman and joint secretary Md Fayzur Rahman Faruque.  Dean of the Earth and Environmental Sciences faculty also President of DU Teachers' Association (DUTA) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal was made coordinator while DUTA Vice-President Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam and General Secretary Prof Rahmat Ullah were made joint coordinator to the Central Coordination Committee to observe the programmes of the Ekushey February in a befitting manner.  Proctor of the university Prof AM Amzad will act as member-secretary of the committee. Besides, 11 sub-committees were also formed in this regard, a press release said. 

AIUB general meeting held 
The general meeting of the Spring Semester 2016-17 of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) was held on Saturday, says a press release. 
AIUB Vice-Chancellor Dr Carmen Z Lamagna presided over the meeting. In connection with conducting Spring Semester 2016 – 2017, teachers and officials were informed about the academic calendar, teaching procedures, related courses, examination and publication of result including rules and regulation of the University. The Founder Vice President and Treasurer Dr Hasanul A Hasan given valuable speech and necessary directives to the faculty members to co-operate and assist the students to fulfill their academic desire. Deans from different departments also spoke their valuable speech on this occasion. The meeting emphasizes on running the academic activities in excellent manner and maintaining discipline in campuses during Spring semester. 

Orientation ceremony held at BU
BARISAL: The orientation ceremony for the student of Barisal University was held on BU campus yesterday.
Vice-Chancellor of BU Prof SM Emamul Haque was in the chair. A total 1345 newly admitted, their guardians, local elites, teachers attended the programme University Grant Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan was the chief guest. The programme addressed, among others, by BU VC Prof SM Emamul Haque, Treasurer of BU Prof AKM Mahbub Hasan, Prof Md Mohshin, Prof Hasanur Rahman.

JU classes resume today
SAVAR: The classes of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will resume today (Wednesday) after 8-day of winter vacation. 
JU Deputy Registrar Mohammed Ali (Education -1) confirmed it by a press release.  Most of the students have returned to the campus. The dormitories however remained open during the vacation. 
Earlier, JU went on 8-day vacation on January 17.
