Speakers at a seminar yesterday stressed the importance of bringing maritime stakeholders to a common platform to explore valuable mineral resources, discover and invent new technology, tools and strategies, reports UNB.
They also emphasised developing skilled manpower so that they can contribute to making Bangladesh a developed country and uplifting the nation's economy to Blue Economy.
The seminar on Ocean Governance and its Challenges: Role of Stakeholders was organised by the Faculty of Maritime Governance of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU) at its auditorium, said a press release.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed was the chief guest while Rear Admiral M Khurshed Alam (retd), secretary to the Maritime Affairs unit of Foreign Affairs Ministry, presented the keynote paper at the programme held with BSMRMU Vice-chancellor Rear Admiral ASM Abdul Baten in the chair.
The Navy chief observed that BSMRMU may generate planning and research in new wide sea areas and contribute to developing maritime human resources.
Speakers also discussed ways to identify and analyse the challenges and risks of governance in ocean and also delivered their valuable thoughts on the role of stakeholders in overcoming those challenges.
President of Bangladesh Enterprise Institute Farooq Sobhan, head of Laboratory of Marine Biotechnology of University Putra Malaysia Dr Md Aminur Rahman and Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal also presented their papers.
Representatives from Shipping, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Education and other ministries concerned, different maritime organisations, maritime scholars from different universities and the teachers and students of the university participated in the seminar.
