The curtain will rise on the 10th edition of the ‘International Children’s Film Festival’ today at the Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library in the capital. With the slogan ‘Future in Frames’ (Frame Frame Agamir Swapno), Children Film Society (CFS) Bangladesh has organised the festival aimed to provide the children a basic idea on film to create their interests in the media and to understand its role to build awareness on different social issues through entertainment.
The festival will be held in two phases. The first phase of the festival is set to take place simultaneously in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Rangpur. The second phase of the festival will be held in Chittagong on February3 and 4.
The festival will screen over 200 films from 54 countries at the 11 venues of three divisional cities. The Shawkat Osman auditorium and Central Public Library premises are the main venues for the festival in Dhaka, where four screenings will take place every day at 11 am, 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhit will inaugurate the festival as chief guest at the Public Library today, while Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will be present as special guest. Chairman of the Festival Advisory Committee artist Mustafa Monwar will preside over the event.
The main attraction of this year’s festival includes a competition section, where 21 among 60 films made by Bangladeshi children will compete, and five will be awarded by a five-member jury board. The award ceremony will take place on the concluding day of the festival on January 30 at the Public Library.
The jury board members of the International Competition Section include Indian International Institute of Design teacher Shekhor Mukharjee, filmmaker Amitabh Reza and Professor Sabrina Sultana from Mass and Journalism Department, Dhaka University. Like the previous years, the festival also includes Young Bangladeshi Talented section, where young filmmakers aged between 19 to 25 will take part. For the first time, the festival added a new competitive section, where films made by children from different countries will compete, and one will be awarded.
