Mirza Ali Behrouze Ispahani, chairman of the Ispahani Group, breathed his last at 5am yesterday at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka. He was 67. His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held yesterday at the Gulshan Azad Mosque in the capital after Asr prayer. The second Namaz-e-Janaza took place after Maghrib prayer at Hossain Dalan Mosque at Nazimuddin Road. Mirza Ali Behrouze Ispahani was the chairperson of the Ispahani Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the country, having interests in tea, textile, food, jute, real estate, poultry and shipping. The group has a legacy of nearly 200 years and employs about 10,000 people. Mirza Ali was also a sponsor director of the Financial Express, a leading financial daily. He was also a member of the Dhaka Stock Exchange(DSE). A committed Philanthropist, Mirza Ali Behrouze Ispahani chaired the Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital and Ispahani Public School and College. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB).
