Girl harassed by bus staff
Thakurgaon: A university girl has faced sexual harassment while traveling by a night coach on Dhaka-Thakurgaon route, reports UNB.
The victim’s mother has filed a complaint with Sadar Police Station in this connection.
According to the complainant, her daughter traveled to Dhaka by a night coach of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ on Saturday night. On the way, coach supervisor Masud and driver Rois mentally and physically harassed the student.
When the bus reached Gabtoli bus terminal in Dhaka, the two staffs also threatened the girl and tried to pick her up in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
Meanwhile, the victim managed to inform her relatives about the situation over phone. The relatives rushed to Gabtoli bus terminal and rescued her. Moshiur Rahman, officer-in- charge of Sadar Police Station, said they have recorded the statement of the victim’s mother. Necessary steps will be taken in this connection, he added.
Two killed in road accidents

Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Sadar and Ghatail upazilas of the district yesterday.
Police said an unidentified motorcycle rider was killed as a truck hit his bike in Gharinda area under Sadar upazila this noon. Another accident occurred when a truck hit another standing truck in Athardana area under Ghatail upazila of the district this morning, leaving truck driver dead on the spot, said Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghatail Police Station. The deceased was Abdur Razzak, 32, resident of Poddarbari area under Madhupur upazila of the district.
Robbers loot Grameen Bank

Armed robbers looted money and other valuables from Majipara branch of Grameen Bank in Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.
Manager of the branch M Riaz Uddin said a group of five youths, aged 18-20, entered the bank around 4 pm as customers. They held the staff hostage at gunpoint and took away the key of the vault, he said. However, they did not find any money at the vault as money had already been sent elsewhere. Tk 22,000 from the moneybags of the staff and seven mobile phone sets.
The gangsters fled in two motorcycles of the Grameen Bank field workers, the manager said. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Delwar Hossain said they launched a drive to arrest the robbers.
Drug rehab pioneer honoured
Brother Ronald Drahozal, executive director of the leading drug rehabilitation centre APON, has been honoured marking his 55 years’ role in drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation in the country.
He received the accolade at a function at Kazi Nazrul Islam High School at Baira in Singair upazila of Manikganj district yesterday, says a press release. At the function arranged by the school authorities on the occasion of “Anti-drug Campaign and Awareness Month-2017”, Ronald Drahozal also handed over prizes to the meritorious and GPA-5 securing students. Ronald Drahozal pioneered drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation in the country through establishing “Apon”. His philanthropic service covers not only Manikganj district but extends all over Bangladesh.
Sheikh Zahidul Islam, upazila nirbahi officer of Singair upazila, Azizul Haque, assistant director of the Department of Narcotics Control, Manikganj, Dewan Zinnah Lathu, Baira union parishad chairman, Harnur Rashid, headmaster of the high school, and Khandaker Asaduzzaman Jewel, councilor of Apon, were present, among others.
