Reigning champions ULAB will take on BRAC in the opening match of 10th ULAB Fair Play Cup T20 Cricket Tournament today as the 15-day tournament will kick-off today at ULAB playground, Ramchandrapur in the capital.

ULAB Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof HM Jahirul Haque stated this at a press conference yesterday at the university auditorium in the capital. “This time we invited 20 teams and finally 12 universities gave their consent to take part in the tournament.”
Prof Akhter Ahmed ULAB Registrar, Taufiq Aziz, ULAB Field Sports Club adviser and  Md Hasanuzzaman, captain of the host team, also spoke on the occasion.
Jahirul Haque said the objective of the tournament  is to establish good relations among private  universities and to create an atmosphere of enjoyment and fairness competition.
Prof Akhter Ahmed informed that the champions of the tournament will receive Tk 50,000 as prize money and the runners-up will get Tk 20,000. “Moreover the champions would represent the country in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World final round to be held in Sri Lanka in September.”
Taufiq Aziz while elaborating the format of the tournament said that 12 participating teams splitting into four groups will participate in the first round. The four group champions and runners-up will qualify for the quarterfinals.
The participating teams are: BRAC University, North South University, Independent University, Asia Pacific University, Eastern University, Southeast University, United International University,  Green University of Bangladesh,  Stamford University, Int’l University of Business Agriculture and Technology and ULAB. The Independent, a leading national English daily, and Kaler Kantha, a Bengali daily, will be the two print media partner of the tournament.
