Germany is eager to work with Bangladesh through German development agency GIZ in areas like textiles and higher education to produce high quality skilled manpower for socio-economic development of the country, reports BSS.
Christian von Mitzlaff, programme coordinator, German-Bangladesh Higher Education Network on Sustainable Textiles, conveyed the interest of the German government when he called on University
Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Abdull Mannan at the latter’s office yesterday.
The German official said GIZ is also willing to train the faculty members of the textiles universities to enhance the quality of teaching-learning and research at tertiary level.
During the meeting, the UGC chairman and the German official also stressed the need for establishing academic and research collaboration among the higher educational institutions of Bangladesh and Germany.
The Chairman of UGC observed that University Grants Commission always welcomes any assistance and cooperation from donor country for enhancement and internationalisation of higher education.
He added that teaching and learning process of textile education need to be modernised to meet the demand of the country’s skilled manpower.
UGC members Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain, Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali, Dr Md Khaled, UGC secretary Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr Md Fakhrul Islam, Joint-Secretary, UGC and Rafique Ahmed Siddique, Deputy Chief, Ministry of Education, among others were present on the occasion.
