2-day music festival begins at DU today
A two-day music festival will begin at Teacher Student Centre on Dhaka University (DU) campus today.
DU Music Department will organise the festival while Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique will inaugurate the function and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will address as the chief guest.
The second day of the festival is expected to be addressed by the Secretary (Coordination and Reformation) of Cabinet Division NM Ziaul Alam as the chief guest.
However, Music Departments of DU and Jagannath University (JnU) as well as foreign artists came from India and China will perform music in the festival.
Orientation programme held at EU
The orientation ceremony for the students of undergraduate and graduate programmes of the spring semester of Eastern University (EU) was held on Sunday at the University Plaza, says a press release.
Prof Abdul Mannan, chairman, Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), was the chief guest. Md Azizul Islam, chairman, Board of Trustees of EU and chairman of Alif Group, was the special guest while Prof Abdur Rab, vice-chancellor of EU, presided over the programme.
Chief Guest congratulated the newly admitted students and shared his success stories in the education sector. He requested the students to enhance their life skills in addition to their academic knowledge to become future leaders. He urged the students to be honest as well as skilled professionals.. Azizul Islam shared his experience of an orientation in a US university and encouraged the students to put in their best efforts to prepare themselves for successful career. Khair Chowdhury, Mohammed Ali Azzam Prof ABM Shahidul Islam, members of the Board of Trustees; Pro-Vice Chancellor; teachers; officials and students were also spoke on the occasion.
Film festival begins at IUB today
University of California San Diego in collaboration with Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) will organise a Shantir Shopokhe Amra (We Stand for Peace) Film Festival at IUB auditorium at Bashundhara in the capital today, says a press release.
US Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat will grace the programme as a chief guest.
RUJA gets new executive body
RAJSHAHI: Hasan Adib of Daily Jugantor and Mostafiz Roni of daily Somokal have been elected as president and general secretary of the Rajshahi University Journalist Association (RUJA) respectively for 2016-17.
Immediate past RUJA president, daily star reporter, M Sayed Shovo, declared the new a 15-member executive committee yesterday evening at an annual meeting of their office while Mass Communication and Journalism department (MCJ) assistant professor and also former general secretary of RUJA, Abdul Kaiyum, former advisory committee member Sujon Nazir and ex-vice president Amzad Hossain Simul were also present.
The other elected office bearers are---senior vice president Mostafiz Misu of daily Alokito Bangaldesh, vice president Abu Zafor of Radio Padma, joint secretary Mahedi Hasan of daily Ittafaq, Robiul Islam Robi of daily New Nation, treasurer Rashed Rinto of Jagonews24.com, publicity and publication secretary Salekin Ahmed of Bangla Tribune, office secretary Sayed Hasan Raj of ABC71.com, literature and cultural affairs secretary Johirul Islam Jahid of Manob Zamin, information and technology affairs secretary Talha Tareque of Amader Somay, sports affairs secretary Ariful Islam of Priyo.com, programme and planning secretary Sishir Mahmud of Potidiner Sangbad while Saiful Islam of Nagrik Kantha, Shahariar Shuvo of Newsbangladesh.com are executive members.
