A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 5, 000 for killing his wife in Chittagong in 2000.
Mir Mohammad Ruhul Amin, judge of Chittagong Divisional Special court, after examining 10 witnesses and other documents handed down the verdict.
The convict was Md Shamsul Haque, son of Motaher Mia of Nabi Nagar Upazila under Brahamanbarai district. The convicted is now absconding Mesbah Uddin Chowdhury, public prosecutor (PP) of Chittagong Divisional Special court, said Shamsul strangled his wife Khainur Akhter to death by a scarf at his home in Textile area of Aturardipu under Panchlish police station in the city. Later, he hanged her body with ceiling, he said. Police recovered the body.
Victim’s father Daru Mia filed a case with Panchlish police station in this connection and the investigation officer Sub-inspector Nurul Islam submitted the charge sheet on February 10, 2002 before the court and the court framed the charge on January 21, 2003, said the
