Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and its operation committee chairman Akram Khan said that they have ‘almost’ finalised a home and away tour for ‘A’ team with New Zealand.
Recently Akram along with some board directors toured in New Zealand to see the games of Bangladesh team. BCB selection panel chairman Minhajul Abedin Nannu also went there.
“New Zealand are very much positive. We talked with them to arrange a home and away series for A team. They will come first. It may be this year and then we will go there in the next year,” said Akram Khan.
“We have almost finalized a home and away tour for A team with them. I think if Bangladesh can play in that condition, it will then be benefited us,” Khan told media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.
“We comparatively did better than the past series though we could not win any match. But we were in match-winning position. We have so many positive signs in the tour. Bowlers did bowls well and batsmen played big innings’. I think if we could take the series then Bangladesh players will develop and improve further,” he added.
Bangladesh will be benefited if they could arrange any additional tour or tours in New Zealand whether it is the national team or A team tours. Drawing a comparison between the recent tour and past tours, Akram said that they comparatively did better than the past series.
Although Bangladesh could not win any match despite being stayed at winning position in one or two more matches, their batsmen and bowlers did well against New Zealand. Some key players to handle the New Zealanders sustained injury, which made the team management worried ahead of the next away series in India and Sri Lanka.
But Akram Khan expressed his optimism, stating that the injured players will fully be fit ahead of the next away series against neighbouring India.
“Players’ injuries make us worried ahead of the next away series because our three or four key players are seriously injured. For this we have been suffering since the second inning of the last Test till the second and last Test against New Zealand. Hopefully they will be fit before the series against India,” BCB operation committee chairman said.
Bangladesh will next tour in Sri Lanka after the completion of the one-off Test against India.
“Most probably it will be finalized within one or two days. But there will be no possibility of shifting. I think it will be at the same time,” former skipper said of Sri Lanka series.
When asked about the appointment of the spin coach, the chairman said that they will wait till not to get the qualified coach.
“We are still searching the spin bowling coach. If we could get any qualified coach then we will pick him for the team. We don’t make any haste for it. We have appointed qualified coaches as our coaching staffs. This time the board is taking some times to appoint qualified coach,” he thought.
BCB extended the deal with the head coach along with other officials till the next World Cup. But they didn’t renew the contact with bowling consultant Thilan Samaraweera.
“Our batsmen are performing excellently under Thilan Samaraweera. You all seen in New Zealand. We have to sit with the matter. We have to take the view from our coach.
I think the matter remains positive as we will next tour in Sri Lanka, where his experience and guideline will benefit us. All things will depend on coach.
Then we will discuss on the matter,” he told in response to a query.
About the proposed tri-national series, Akram Khan said, “It was started discussing but I don’t get any thing final about it. But it needs some more times for it. We will go on trying if we could do the series it will be better for us.”
“It is sure that Australia is coming here to play a Test series,” he said of Australia’s tour in Bangladesh in September.
