Body of youth found in Savar
An unidentified young man was found dead near Bypail-Abdullahpur highway in Ashulia Bazar on Saturday noon.
The age of the deceased was around 30.
Mohsinul Kadir, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, said locals spotted the body of the youth at noon and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. A case was filed in this connection.
Gazipur warehouse catches fire
A jhut (garment rags) godown was gutted as a fire that broke out at Namabazar in Tongi Mill Gate area in Gazipur on Saturday afternoon.
Tongi fire service sources said the fire broke out around 12.30pm and soon engulfed the whole godown.
On information, five firefighting units from Sadar, Joydebpur and Uttara fire stations rushed to the spot. The firefighters are still trying to douse the blaze.
The reason behind the fire could not be known yet.
5 ‘robbers’ arrested in capital
Police in a drive arrested five suspected members of a robber gang from Jatrabari area of the capital on Thursday night.
The arrestees were identified as Alamin, 21, Parvez, 20, Shawon, 30, Selim, 18, and Sohel, 15. Tipped off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in Jatrabari area, a special team of Jatrabari Police Station carried out a drive near Sayedabad Super Market around 10:40 pm and arrested them, said police.
The law enforcers also recovered three sharp weapons, including two knives, from the arrestees.
68 ‘drug traders’ surrender
A total of 68 alleged professional drugs traders and traffickers have willingly surrendered to police in Rajshahi city on Friday.
They expressed their commitment of abstaining themselves from the anti-social activities forever and also took oath on the issue. They were also rehabilitated with cash money, sewing machines and rickshaw-vans.
On the occasion, Community Policing Forum organised the surrender and rehabilitation meeting at Golzarbag School playground under Rajpara Police Station.
Two armed dacoits arrested
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two armed dacoits from Ali Akbar road of Bibirhat area under Fatichari upazila of Chittagong on Friday.
The arrested were identified as Mohammad Faruk, 32, and Mohammad Ibrahim, 28. Police recovered a shooter gun, seven rounds of bullets and huge sharp weapons from their possession.
Assistant director (media) of Chittagong RAB-7 Mimtanur Rahman said, acting on tip off, RAB arrested them from Ali Akbar road of Bibirhat area under Fatichari upazila of the district at 2 pm on FRiday with the arms and bullets.
Film fest in Rangpur Jan 24
A four-day long International Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh will begin at Rangpur from January 24. The organisers selected the venue to show the films at Shawkat Osman Auditorium at Public Library in the city.
In this regard a press briefing was held at Raja Ram Mohon auditorium in the city yesterday. Shah Newaz Khan Siju, Director, Children's Film Society, Rangpur narrated the programme in prsence of the Print and Electronic Media.
He said film will be show at 10 am, 2pm. and 4pm everyday. The organisers appealed to all the students of all educational Institutions to watch the film.
