The preparation of Bangladesh women’s cricket team for the forthcoming ICC World Cup Qualifier has not been done better as they also lost their series-ending match to their South African counterparts by comprehensive eight wickets due to batting frailties at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar yesterday.
By winning the match, South Africa finished the five-match ODI series with 4-1.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh eves managed to score a paltry 68 for all-out, after which South Africa comfortably run down the target inside 10 overs.
As soon as the proceedings start Bangladesh fell into the onslaught of South Africa’s spin and pace combined attack. This was off-break Yolani Fourie, who made the first breakthrough for the visitors ripping through Bangladesh top-order when she got rid of Sharmin Akhter and Shaila Sharmin in her second over.
Therefore, pacer Odine Kirsten, who was the most successful bowler for South Africa, scalped the wicket of opener Sharmin Sultan. Sultana top-scored for Bangladesh with 13. Kirsten then removed Lata Mandol before the dismissal of Salma Khatun and Farzana Haque in the same over. Of them, Farzana and Lata fell for nought.
Player-of-the-match Kirsten was supported by pacer Marcia Letsoalo, who snapped up three wickets for the Proteas.
In reply, South Africa women’ cricket team did not face any major hiccup and reached their target just losing two wickets. Lizelle Lee went for 37, while Andrie Steyn for nine. Mignon du Preez remained at stumps at nine and Chloe Tryon was on not out 13. Lee later was named player of the series.
Rumana Ahmed and Salman Khatun picked up one wicket each for Bangladesh.
