Iranian Abbas Kiarostami’s ‘Close Up’ to be screened today

Noted Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami’s docu-fiction film ‘Close Up’ will be screened today at 3pm at the main auditorium of Public Library in the capital’s Shahbag, as a part of the ongoing ‘Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) 2017’.  
Written, directed and edited by Abbas Kiarostami, the film tells the story of the real-life trial of a man who impersonated filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, conning a family into believing they would star in his new film. It features the people involved, acting as themselves. A film about human identity, it helped to increase recognition of Kiarostami in the West.
The film received Quebec Film Critics Award at Montreal International Festival of New Cinema and Video in 1990 and FIPRESCI Prize at  International Istanbul Film Festival in 1992.
Besides, Iranian film ‘Valderama’ directed by Abbas Amini, India-UAE joint venture ‘Pathemari’ by Salim Ahamed, Philippines film ‘Lando At Bugoy’ by Vic Acedillo and Turkish film ‘Pandora’nın Kutusu’ (Pandora’s Box) by Yeşim Ustaoğlu will be screened respectively at 10am, 1pm, 5:30 and 7:30pm at the same venue.
On the other hand, Iranian drama film ‘Daughter’ directed by Reza Mirkarimi will be screened today at 5:30pm at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum.  The story of the film shows that, a young girl leaves her hometown in South of Iran for a half day trip without permission of his strict father to attend a close friend’s goodbye party. On her way back home, hazy weather changes all she planned.
The film received the Golden St. George award for Best film in Moscow International Film Festival and Golden Peacock at International Film Festival of India in 2016.
And also, Iranian film ‘Panjereh’ (The Window) by Rahbar Ghanbari, Vietnamese film ‘Nhà Tiên Tri’ (The Prophecy) by Nsut Vương Đức,  Turkey-France-Germany joint venture film ‘Araf’ (Somewhere in Between) by Yeşim Ustaoğlu and Indian film ‘Khoj’ by Arka Ganguly will be screened respectively at 10am, 1pm, 3pm and 7:30pm at the same venue.
