Ishita Afroz of BKSP has a bright opportunity to earn a double crown in the women’s events when she moved into the women’s singles final in the AIUB Victory Day Tournament.
Ishita did not face much resistance to down her temmate Popy Akhtar 6-1, 6-2 in the singles semifinal at the National Tennis Complex in the capital yesterday. She will meet another contender from BKSP Afrana Islam Preety in the final. Preety eliminated Jerin Sultana of BKSP 6-1, 7-5 in another semifinal.
Earlier in the day, Ishita pairing with Popy earned a straight 6-3, 6-2 sets win over Afrana Islam and Joly Akhar in the women’s doubles final.
Meanwhile, Alamgir Hossain of Nordic Club, who toppled top seed Amol Roy in the semifinal, earned a comfortable 6-2, 6-0 victory over Milon Hossain of American Club in the semifinals. Mamun Bepari of Pabna had to fight three sets to down his team-mate Anwar Hossain 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
And in the men’s doubles, Amol Roy partnering with Anwar Hossain defeated Asmatullah and Faruk Hossain 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 in the semifinal. Hasibul Haque and Milon 2-6, 7-5, 11-9 in the other semifinal.
