Man to die for killing father

A court here yesterday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his father in 2010.
The condemned convict was identified as Mozaharul Islam of Mahatpara village in Baliadangi upazila. The court also fined him Tk 10,000.
According to the prosecution, Mozaharul Islam had an altercation with his father Idris Ali over planting paddy on December 13, 2010. At one stage, Mozaharul hit his father with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead.
Ansarul Islam, elder son of Idris Ali, filed a case with Baliadangi Police station and police submitted a chargehsheet against Mozaharul on February 6, 2011.
After examining the records and witnesses, Additional Session Judge Mohammad Haider Ali handed down the verdict in presence of the convict.

Man hacked to death

A sexagenarian man was hacked to death by a group of criminals at Huda Mailmari village in Shailkupa upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Asalat Sheikh, 65, a resident of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station Tariqul Islam said Asalat was returning home from the field in the afternoon. A group of miscreants swooped on the elderly person near his home and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
The body was sent to hospital for autopsy, the OC added.

3 get life term for murder 
Netrakona: A court here yesterday convicted three people and sentenced them to life imprisonment for killing a man in 2004, reports UNB.
The three convicts are: Habibur Rahman alias Khasru, 45, and Kamruzzaman alias Kamru Miah, 43, sons of late Iman Ali, and Golam Faruk alias Tanvir, 42, son of late Saidur Rahman of Atnaiya village in Mohanganj upazila.
Habibur Rahman alias Khasru remain absconding.
According to the prosecution, the convicts hacked Manik Chowdhury, a resident of Atnaiya village in Mohanganj upazila, with sharp weapons on February 6, 2004 over previous enmity, leaving him dead on the spot.
The victim’s brother Manik Chowdhury filed a case with Mohanganj Police Station on the day.
On August 31, 2004, police submitted a charge-sheet accusing 32 people. After examining the witnesses and documents, Judge of Netrakona Additional and Session Judge’s Mohammad Saifur Rahman handed down the verdict against the trio and acquitted 26 of the accused.
