2 bikers killed in road crash
Two motorcyclists were killed and another one injured as a truck hit them at Najimuddin road crossing in the capitals Chakbazar area early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Sany, 20, and Akash, 25, both resident of Bangshal Sweeper Colony. Khairul Islam, sub-inspector of Chakbazar Police Station, said the truck hit the motorcycle in the area around 1.00am, leaving its three riders seriously injured. The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Sany and Akash succumbed to their injuries around 1.45am.
Maududur Rashid takes office as BARD DG
M Maududur Rashid Safdar, additional secretary to the government, has joined as the Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD).
Safdar took the office on January 12. Before joining at BARD, he discharged his duty as the director of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation. Safdar joined the civil service in 1988 and worked as assistant commissioner and executive magistrate, assistant commissioner (land) and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in several districts. He completed his graduation and post graduation from Dhaka Universitys Public Administration Department.
Devotional singer found dead
Police recovered the throat-slit body of a kirtania (devotional singer) from Pithavog village in Rupsha upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Prafulla Biswas, 60, a resident of Pithabhog village. Jiaul Hoque, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Rupsha Police Station, said Prafulla returned home after performing at a religious programme of the Hindu community on Monday night. On Tuesday evening, the neighbours went to his house and found his throat-slit body lying on the floor. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
