14 detained at Ctg airport

STAFF REPORTER, Ctg

Immigration police at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong detained 14 people while they were going to Saudi Arabia with Umrah visas yesterday.

Md Shahrir Alam, superintend of Police (SP) immigration police of Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport, said after checking their visas and passport, police found those are valid. But police suspected that the detainees were not going to perform Umrah Hajj.
“We suspect two of them are Myanmar citizens and the rest of 12 are local people of Chittagong,” the SP added.
They were supposed to fly by a flight of Air Arabia at 9am from the airport. Among the detainees seven were male and seven were female, aged between 20 to 40 years, he added.
Airport Manager Wing Commander Riazul Kabir told The Independent, “We are yet to conform whether they are Rohingyas or not but they all have Bangladesh passport.”
