12 DNCC market bldgs ‘vulnerable’

Twelve buildings of seven markets under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) have been identified as structurally vulnerable, reports UNB.
Four of the buildings are situated in Karwan Bazar, two each in Gulshan-2 and Khilgaon Taltala and one each is located in Mohammadpur, Gulshan-1, Gabtali and Amin Bazar of the capital.
 Besides, 141 privately owned buildings under the DNCC areas have also been declared by Rajuk as 'structurally vulnerable'. DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq disclosed the information at a press conference at the corporation's Gulshan-2 office on Tuesday.
The DNCC mayor called upon the traders who have been running businesses in those vulnerable buildings to shift their businesses immediately. As those market buildings were identified as structurally vulnerable, shift your businesses. We'll rebuild or retrofit those buildings to avert any untoward incident in future, he said seeking cooperation from the traders.
He also said, “We don't want the incident like Gulshan DNCC market fire to recur. We want to make everyone aware with the help of the media.
Asked about the DNCC's initiative about the structurally vulnerable private buildings, Annisul said Rajuk will take initiatives in this regard. The DNCC has no authority to deal with it.
Senior DNCC officials, traders and private building owners were present at the briefing.
