Seven get life term for murder
RANGPUR: A court here on Tuesday sentenced seven persons to life term rigorous imprisonment for murdering a farmer in village Taraf Bahadi under Mithapukur upazila in the district over ten years back, reports BSS.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of Court-2 of Rangpur Abu Jafar Md Kamruzzaman handed down the verdict in presence of five of the convicted persons.
The convicted persons are: Lablu Mian, Abdul Aziz, Nehal Uddin, Arjina Begum, Omela Begum, Mashiur Rahman and Noor Islam of the same village.
Convicts Arjina Begum and Mashiur Rahman were absent during announcement of the verdict. According to prosecution, farmer Belal Hossain of village Kushkadaho under Nababganj upazila in Dinajpur district came to his relative Lablu Mians house on September 29 in 2006 to resolve family feud of Lablu with his wife Arjina Begum.
At one stage, Lablu Mian along with his other family members attacked Belal Hossain with lethal weapons and injured him critically on false allegation of sexually harassing Arjina Begum.
As his condition deteriorated, the villagers rushed injured Belal Hossain in the morning on September 30 to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on October 1 in 2006.
Alamgir Hossain, son of the deceased person, filed a murder case in this connection with Mithapukur Thana on October 2 in 2006 accusing the convicted persons for murdering his father by beating him after bringing false allegation against him.
After investigating into the case, Mithapukur Thana police submitted charge-sheet against the seven accused persons before the court.
After examining the witnesses and evidences of the case during hearing, the court found the accused persons guilty and handed down the verdict in the jam-packed courtroom.
