Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) is planning to organise Youth Games at the later part of this year. The BOA prepared a budget of Taka 20 crore and demanded the amount from National Sports Council to organise the sports carnival for the youth.
Badal Roy, vice-president of the BOA when talking to the reporters yesterday at the BFF office said that his desire to organise the Games from the Union level but it would be something difficult, as they decided to make it from the Upazila level.
Badal while explaining the reason said, “As our plan was to organise the Games from Union level, in our perspective it is something difficult, so our preliminary decision is to organize it from the Upazila stage.”
“Districts will organise the preliminary phase the ‘Inter District’ competitions with the participation of the Upazilas and the district team will be formed with the best performers. The districts will then participate in the zonal or divisional competitions and the final phase will take place in Dhaka with the divisional teams.”
“In fact we need lot of discussion to organise the Games. We have scarcity of players for different disciplines. If we can organise the Youth Games, we may have some talented athletes.” “We are still talking about the disciplines and yet to finalise anything, the Games can be staged on September or October,” Badal replied to a query.
Group Captain (retd) Rafiqul Islam, member secretary for training and development committee of BOA, informed the reporters that to organize the Youth Games they demanded Taka 20 crores to the NSC and they also had a discussion with the State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder in this regard.
Rafiqul Islam said, “We proposed to NSC for Taka 20 Crores to organize the Youth Games and also discussed with chairman of the NSC (the State Minister) and he told us that it will not possible in this fiscal year and will have to approve it in next budget. So we discussed in our (BOA) meeting to make a plan after July to hold the Games.”
