Shakib improves batting ranking

Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan achieved a career-high batting ranking by slamming 217 against the high-ranking New Zealand in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Test Player Rankings.

Shakib jumped eight places to secure the career-best ranking of 23rd position. His 217-run innings was the highest individual score by a Bangladesh batsman in Test cricket.
Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim earlier smashed double century as the first-ever Bangladesh batsman against Sri Lanka at Galle in March 8, 2013. Therefore, Tamim Iqbal eclipsed Mushfiq after around two years by hitting 206 against Pakistan at Khulna in April 28, 2015.
But the country’s premier all-rounder outshone both Mushfiq and Tamim by clubbing 217 against New Zealand in Wellington at Basin Reserve in January 13, 2017.  
At the same match, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim earned a rise of 10 places which placed him in 35th position by clattering 159. Together with Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiq put together 359 runs for the fifth wicket stand. Shakib bagged 659 rating points, while Mushfiq grabbed 572.
Opener Tamim Iqbal amongst Bangladesh players improved more in batting rankings. The hard-hitting opener vaulted two places to claim his 20th position by clobbering 56. Mominul Haque on the other hand leaped one place to capture 28th position by clouting first innings 64. Tamim scored 666 points, while Mominul made 636 points. 
But Shakib remains at 15th place in bowling rankings with 661 points. But off-break Mehedi Hasan Miraj and off-spinner Taijul Islam downgraded by losing one and two points respectively. 
And in the all-rounder rankings Shakib retained second place behind India’s Ravichandran Ashwin.
