2 killed in Gazipur road crash
A man and a woman were killed and nine others injured as a bus hit a truck on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Zarina Bazar area of Gazipur city on Tuesday morning.
The details about the deceased could not be known immediately. Hafiz, officer-in-charge of Mawna Highway Police, said the accident took place in the area when the Mymensingh-bound bus hit a stationary bus in the area around 11.30am, leaving a woman dead on the spot and 10 people including critically injured. The injured were rushed to Sreepur Hospital where the man succumbed to his injuries.

Man found dead in Gazipur
A man was found dead near the rail track in Haydorabad area of Gazipur city on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, a Malaysia expatriate, hailing from Sirajganj. Delwar Hossain, assistant sub-inspector of Tongi Railway Police Station, said locals spotted Shafiqul’s body in the area in the morning. Later police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Family members said that Shafiqul had been living in Malaysia for the last 10 years. He returned to the country on Sundayt night. Muggers might have thrown him out of a speeding train on his way home, claimed the family members

One gets 10-year jail in Ctg
A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced a criminal to 10-year rigorous imprisonment over possessing arms.
     Fifth additional session judge Md Nur-e-Alam handed down the verdict. The convicted was identified as Joysen Barua son of Banikantha Barua hailing from Haldia of Raozan upzila in Chittagong. Additional district public prosecutor Lokman Hossain said, “Police arrested Joysen Barua on December 23, 2003. Gleaning information police conducted a drive and recovered a LG (Lighter Gun) from Boalia bridge of Hathjazari area.” Police submitted charge sheet on December 28, 2003. The court framed the charge on June 22, 2004 under Arms Act section 19 (A). After examining seven witnesses and records the court handed down the verdict.

5 food shops fined in Rajshahi
Members of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined five food shops Taka 7,500 on charges of selling sub-standard foods Rajshahi on Monday.
A team of the DNCRP conducted raids in Tentulia Bazar area under Bagha upazila of the district and found the shops guilty of preparing, possessing and selling foods in unhygienic condition.
The team fined the shops Taka 7,500 and realised the money from the shop owners on the spot. Assistant Director of DNCRP Apurba Adhikary said the drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will continue in the days ahead.
