Men’s top seed Amol Roy of Engineers Recreation Centre started his campaign in the AIUB Victory Day Tennis Tournament with a winning note. A south-paw Amol demolished Md Ishtiaq 6-0, 6-2 in a third round men’s singles match at the National Tennis Complex in the capital yesterday.
All the winners of the third round moved into the quarterfinals. Alamgir Hossain of Nordic Club beat Hanif Munna of BKSP Training Academy 6-4, 6-1, Quaser Ali of Elite Tennis Club beat Arif Hossain of Arif Hossain of American Club 6-4, 6-4, Rubel Hossain of British High Commission Club beat Arnab Shah of BKSP 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, Anwar Hossain of Pabna beat Akhtar Hossain also of Pabna 6-4, 6-1, Faruq Hossain of Elite Club beat Rafiqul Islam of NTC 6-3, 6-2 and Mamun Bepari of Pabna beat Hasibul Haque of Satkhira 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Top contender for the women’s singles title Popy Akhtar of BKSP eliminated Susmita Sen of Jhalakathi 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 to qualify for the last eight.
