Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said almost 70 percent people of the country are now under coverage of banking system as the government has been putting efforts into bringing the people under financial inclusion, reports BSS.
“We have achieved remarkable success in financial inclusion through bringing the people under banking system,” he told journalists after several meetings, including World Bank team led by Finance and Markets Global Practice Director of the World Bank Group Sebastain-A Molineus, at secretariat in the capital.
The minister lauded the Bangladesh Bank, the Agriculture Ministry and the Education Ministry for their huge contributions, including opening Taka 10 accounts, to bring the rural people and students under financial inclusion.
Responding to a question on publishing the probe body report on the cyber heist of Bangladesh Bank’s (BB) account with New York’s Reserve Bank, he said the report will be made public after becoming smooth the recovery process of the heist money.
During the meeting with WB team, they discussed various issues including implementation challenges of different programmes, key challenges of reforming the financial sector and support of WB on financial sector development.
