Defence to appeal verdict

Most of the defence lawyers expressed their dissatisfaction over the verdict and said their clients would appeal with the higher court.

Advocate Lutfar Rahman, counsel for Nur Hossain, expressed his dissatisfaction over the verdict and said that during the killing incident his client was not present at the place of occurrence. 
“My client believes that he has been denied in getting justice. He was not involved in the killing incident as he was not present during the incident,” Rahman said.
He said, “We will appeal against the lower court verdict. We hope that the High Court will acquit Nur Hossain as he is not involved in the killing incident,” he noted. 
Advocate Md Sultanujjaman, lawyer of Lt Col Tareque Sayeed, said he would appeal to the higher court as he is not satisfied with the verdict that awarded the death penalty to his client. He claimed that the evidence produced in court against his client was not enough to prove him guilty.
"My client's statement under Section 164 is not inculpatory, rather it's exculpatory in nature. We don't find the verdict convicting him based on this as logical," said Sultanuzzaman, one of the counsels for Tareque Sayeed.
